Introduction to Matter: Solid, Liquid, and Gas

In Science, everything around you is made of matter. Matter is anything that has mass and occupies space. The three basic states of matter are solid, liquid, and gas.

Solid – has a definite shape and volume. Examples: rock, pencil, table.
Liquid – has a definite volume but takes the shape of its container. Examples: water in a glass, milk in a bottle.
Gas – has no definite shape or volume, it spreads out to fill the container. Examples: air, smoke.

Scenario Example:
If you leave a glass of water under the sun, you will notice the water slowly disappears. That’s because it changes into water vapor (gas). This shows how matter can change its state depending on conditions. This kind of real-life example is useful when you are preparing for a states of matter quiz with answers because it helps you remember concepts faster.
